Chama cha Madaktari Wanawake Tanzania (MEWATA) ikishirikiana na ITV/Radio One  wanapenda kuungana na Wizara ya Afya na Ustawi wa Jamii na wadau wengine wote  katika kuadhimisha mwezi wa Saratani ya Matiti Duniani Oktoba kwa kufanya zoezi la uchunguzi wa saratani ya matiti katika Mikoa ya Kilimanjaro na Arusha. Zoezi hili litafanyika kwa siku mbili, Jumamosi tarehe 29 na Jumapili tarehe 30 Mwezi  Oktoba, 2011.

Tutatoa huduma hii ya uchunguzi katika Hospitali tatu za Wilaya kwa Mkoa wa Arusha na katika Hospitali tatu za wilaya kwa Mkoa wa Kilimanjaro.

Wanawake wote wanaoishi katika Mikoa ya Kilimanjaro na Arusha na wilaya za jirani mnakaribishwa katika zoezi hili.

Mewata trains 50 students on breast cancer diagnosis
More than 50 students of the Institute of Accountancy Arusha (IAA) have been trained on breast and cervix cancer diagnosis to enable them join the bandwagon of people fighting to scale down the disease, which affect thousands of women in the country.

Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre (KCMC) specialist surgeon, who is also leader of the Medical Women Association of Tanzania (Mewata) in the northern zone, Dr Zaituni Bokhary, urged the students to inculcate the habit of inspecting their breasts and meeting medical doctors at least once per year.

She said the training aimed to enable the students participate actively in fighting against one of the growing health problem estimated to be affecting thousands of women in the country, with 2,500 cases of the reported in hospitals in the country each year.

“Many people go to hospital when the disease has already reached an advanced stage. Dealing with such cases is very costly,” said Dr Bokhary, in her paper on breast and cervix cancer. Read more ...
 
Contribution of MEWATA on Women’s Health and Development in Tanzania

 For over 23 years, the Medical Women Association of Tanzania has been concentrating in improving the health of women and children of Tanzania in line with its vision and mission as stipulated in its previous strategic plan (2006-2008). MEWATA recognizes the vulnerability of women in developing both health wise and economically and as a women professional association, it has a major role to play so as to rescue the current situation. 
As a professional association, MEWATA initiatives contribute to national and international development agenda including the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), Tanzania Development Vision 2025 and MKUKUTA among others with main focus to women and children. 

MEWATA initiatives in support of women health

The contribution of MEWATA in strengthening women’s health is mainly rooted in six thematic areas namely; Reproductive health cancers, Maternal, Newborn and Child Health, Human Resource for Health, Gender Based Violence, Family Planning and Medical Ethics.
